• Assist in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients and their underlying respiratory disease process according to SBAR and the respiratory care plan.
• Educate patients and their families regarding respiratory specific modalities and treatments, while maintaining professionalism, courtesy and empathy.
• Effectively monitor patient response and vital signs before, during and after a respiratory treatment is provided.
• Aid in special procedures involving pulmonary management.
• Assist in the collaboration with physicians, nurses, co-workers and other members of the healthcare team to ensure out-patient success and the reduction of hospital stay.
• Evaluate arterial blood gases and confirm recommendations with respiratory preceptor.
• Identify indications and contraindications to respiratory therapeutic modalities.
• Maintain airway patency through suctioning, positioning and the administration of respiratory drugs.
• Troubleshoot respiratory equipment should malfunctions arise secondary to patient demise.
• Recommend solutions and parameter changes based on ventilator graphics display.
• Assist in x-ray interpretation to confirm underlying disease and its process as well as important markings.
• Maintain sterility during treatment procedures and apply appropriate disinfection techniques.
• Recognize indication for and setup respiratory equipment as applicable.
